Truvada and other tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) medications are used for HIV treatment and PrEP. Long-term TDF use has been associated with proximal renal tubulopathy, decreased kidney function, and reductions in bone mineral density.

The newer formulation tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) has a better safety profile, but millions of patients were prescribed the older TDF formulation before the switch. Some have suffered permanent kidney damage or osteoporosis-like bone loss.

If you took TDF-based HIV medication and developed kidney problems, Fanconi syndrome, or bone density loss, preserve your medical records and consult with an attorney about potential claims.
