Prescription records prove that you were actually prescribed and dispensed the medication in question. Without these records, defendants may dispute the timing, duration, or even the fact that you took the drug. Start by requesting a full printout from every pharmacy you have used.

Also preserve the original pill bottles, prescription receipts, insurance claims (Explanation of Benefits), and any appointment notes from your prescriber. Electronic records from pharmacies typically go back six to seven years, but your state's statute of limitations may be shorter.

If you believe you may have a drug injury claim, do not wait. Pharmacy records may be purged after a certain period, and older prescriptions may be harder to reconstruct. Make copies and store them in a safe place separate from your originals.
