Actemra (tocilizumab) is an IL-6 receptor inhibitor used for rheumatoid arthritis, giant cell arteritis, and was used off-label and authorized for severe COVID-19 during the pandemic. It suppresses the immune system, increasing infection risk.

Serious adverse events include severe or fatal infections, gastrointestinal perforation, hepatotoxicity, anaphylaxis, and demyelinating disorders. The boxed warning alerts prescribers to the risk of tuberculosis and other opportunistic infections.

If you were prescribed Actemra and experienced a serious infection, GI perforation, or severe allergic reaction, document your treatment timeline and consult with counsel.
